End of Semester
Now that you have [almost] completed the course, please answer each survey question once more in a
few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I plan to encourage my students to express themselves creatively through making art that coincides with projects we are doing, or to show more information about something important to them. Art can be used as a means of showing people's identities, and I plan to do a lot of studio items that teach the class more about all of the students. I also know some ways in which to incorporate art into teaching other units of study that make it more interesting and fun for students to do.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
It is very easy to integrate art into the classroom in a way that is meaningful to the students and for learning. Art can be tied to a lot of different big ideas that go along with and support topics being covered in other subjects. Being able to see how other things, like art, relate to units of study is very important for students and only serves to create a deeper understanding of a concept.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I still don't view myself as an artist by any means, but I know now that art isn't just about how realistic you can make something look. I never thought about telling stories through my art before, and everything we have created in class has had some sort of meaning behind it that relates to something more than art. I have the confidence to create things of my choosing and do not worry quite as much about how "good" it is in comparison to more accomplished artists.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
Becoming familiar with VTS in class had made me much more comfortable and confident with ways to analyze and talk about art. It is such an open discussion where no one feels judged for any comment they make, and provides a lot more insight to every other student who is listening. I feel like I can find things to point out in works of art and make inferences about what I think it means.
